Privacy Policy
Last updated 19 August 2026
This policy explains what we do with your personal information when you use this website, ask us to value a vehicle, or sell or scrap a vehicle to us. It also sets out your rights under the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.
1. Who we are
Your Car Sold Scotland is the data controller for the information described in this policy. We are registered in Scotland under company number 03301330925, with our registered office at 42 Cumbernauld Road, Glasgow G33 6EW. We are registered with the Information Commissioner's Office under registration number 00013343412.
2. What we collect
Information you give us
- Your name, email address, telephone number and postcode.
- Your vehicle's registration number, and the current mileage you tell us.
- Whether you want to sell the vehicle or scrap it.
- Anything else you choose to tell us by phone, email or in a message.
Information we generate about your vehicle
When you enter a registration we look the vehicle up and record what comes back: make, model, variant, year, fuel type, gearbox, colour, body style, engine size and MOT expiry date. We also record the offer we made, the date it expires, and — if you book — your collection date, time slot and booking reference.
Information we collect automatically
Standard technical information such as your IP address, browser and device type, and which pages you viewed. Where this involves non-essential cookies we ask for your consent first.
What we do not collect through this website
We do not ask for bank details, photographs, driving licences or proof of address online. Your V5C logbook, photo ID and proof of address are checked in person by the driver at collection, and your bank details are taken at that point so we can pay you. None of that is entered on this website.
3. Why we use it, and our legal basis
- To value your vehicle and give you a price — to take steps at your request before entering a contract.
- To arrange and carry out collection, and to pay you — to perform our contract with you.
- To confirm you are entitled to sell the vehicle, and to prevent vehicle crime and fraud — our legitimate interest in lawful trading, and our legal obligations.
- To notify the DVLA and, where the vehicle is scrapped, to create the disposal records the law requires — compliance with a legal obligation.
- To keep financial and trading records — compliance with legal and tax obligations.
- To contact you about a valuation, booking or enquiry you started — to perform our contract or take steps at your request.
- To send you marketing about our services — with your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
- To understand how the website is used and improve it — our legitimate interest, and your cookie consent where required.
4. Who we share it with
- Our vehicle data and valuation provider, to identify your vehicle and price it.
- The Authorised Treatment Facility that depollutes and recycles the vehicle, where it is scrapped.
- The DVLA, to notify a change of keeper or the disposal of the vehicle.
- Your finance provider, where a settlement figure has to be paid off as part of the sale.
- Our bank and payment providers, so the money reaches your account.
- Our hosting, database, storage and email providers, who run the systems this website and our records sit on.
- Police, regulators, insurers and our professional advisers, where the law requires it or we need to establish or defend a legal claim.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not pass it to third parties for their own marketing.
5. Vehicle disposal records
Scrapping a vehicle creates records we are legally required to keep, including details of the vehicle, the person who brought it to us, and where it went. Metal dealers in Scotland are also required to record who they buy from and to pay by traceable means rather than cash. These records are kept for the periods the relevant legislation sets, and cannot be deleted on request while that obligation lasts.
6. How long we keep it
If you get a valuation but do not go ahead, we keep your enquiry for a limited period so we can pick the conversation up if you come back, then delete or anonymise it. If you sell or scrap a vehicle to us, we keep the transaction record for as long as tax, trading and vehicle disposal law requires. Marketing consent is kept until you withdraw it.
7. Cookies
We use cookies that are necessary for the site to work, and — only with your consent — cookies that help us understand how the site is used. You can change or withdraw that consent at any time through your browser settings.
8. Where your information is held
Our website, database and file storage are provided by suppliers who may process data outside the UK. Where that happens we rely on an adequacy decision, the UK International Data Transfer Agreement, or equivalent contractual protection.
9. Keeping it secure
Access to customer records is restricted to named staff accounts, connections to our systems are encrypted, and our dashboard requires a login. No system can be guaranteed completely secure, but we take these measures seriously and review them.
10. Your rights
You can ask us to give you a copy of your information, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to how we use it, or transfer it elsewhere. You can withdraw consent at any time where we relied on it. Some rights are limited where we are legally required to keep a record — see section 5.
Contact us using the details in section 13 and we will respond within one month. If you are unhappy with our response you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
11. Automated valuations
The price shown on this website is produced automatically from the registration and mileage you enter, together with current market and scrap metal data. It is not a final offer and no sale is concluded on the basis of it. A person inspects the vehicle before any offer is confirmed, so you are never bound by an automated decision alone.
12. Children
This website and our service are for people aged 18 and over, and we do not knowingly collect information about children.
13. Contact us
For anything about this policy or your information, email us at Info@yourcarsoldscotland.co.uk or write to us at 42 Cumbernauld Road, Glasgow G33 6EW.
14. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as our service or the law changes. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last revised.
